2006 - 2007 Beethoven cycle

We are pleased to announce that we are bringing the complete string quartets of Beethoven to St. Louis in a series of six concerts. Arguably Beethoven's greatest, most personal works, the quartets span his entire creative life, from the early Opus 18 quartets, which are closely akin to the works of Mozart and Haydn; to the monumental "Rasumovsky" quartets, written in the same revolutionary spirit as the "Eroica" symphony; and finally into the uncharted waters of the Late Quartets, where Beethoven seems to transcend the tragedy of his own life to express the deepest beauty of the human spirit. We invite you to join us on this journey through some of the greatest music ever written, and welcome your questions, comments, and reactions throughout the series.
